L is for Lincoln Memorial
The Lincoln Memorial is a national icon; it is located on the west end in the National Mall in Washington, D.C. It is in West Potomac Park, in line with the U.S. Capitol and the Washington Monument. In the rear side of the memorial to the west you will find Arlington National Cemetery and the noble Lee-Custis Mansion. The Great Emancipator is the 16th President Abraham Lincoln; he is a great historical figure in United States history. From his humble beginnings as a poor boy on the frontier, he worked hard at whatever he put his mind to do. He read books by candlelight and worked hard on the family farm. He worked at many jobs from store clerk to river trader. He had a dedicated work ethic and started a legal profession. Following that he went into politics as the Illinois state legislature to the United States Congress. Of course we know that after that he became the 16th President of the United States.
